In some respects it has felt like Christmas for months. Sometime at the end of September, the stores began advertising for Christmas by displaying their merchandise and playing Christmas music. Despite all the kind warnings from merchants, I find Christmas is upon us and I am struggling to get ready. It can be such a busy time of year. We decorated our home last week and I have begun to listen to Christmas music throughout the day. I know there are always countless events that surround the season which help to bolster the holiday spirit.
I have to confess that one of the Christmas events I am most looking forward to will take place this Saturday morning, December 13th at 9:00. The New Life Christmas Breakfast will take place in the gym. There is something so fun about sitting down with families to share breakfast and all kinds of fun. Everyone is invited to wear their holiday garb and come with large appetites. Our choir, the Caroling Kids, will sing a few songs, we will have crafts children (of all ages) can participate in, a magician, and we will sing Christmas carols as well as learn a bit about their history. So, you should make plans to meet me on Saturday morning and we can all share in breakfast and a bit of fun together. To me, there is nothing that makes me feel the "Christmas Spirit" more than gathering with friends and celebrating. Truly it is the most wonderful time of the year.

Pumpkin Patch Pictures
The pictures for Pumpkin Patch '08 are up and ready to be viewed by one and all. It has taken me longer than expected to get all the pictures up and loaded...maybe this is because Cal and Patty Mura did a fantastic job capturing many fun moments at Pumpkin Patch.
Just an FYI, the pictures are posted on Picasa, it is a web album that allows you to view the pictures and purchase any you would like to own. Whether you were at Pumpkin Patch or not, take a look at the fun we had - from monster brains and eyeballs (spaghetti) to games to fun costumes to trunk or treating we had a "spooktacular" time.

Disneyland
I realize I may be way behind the times with this post but I wanted to let you know just in case anyone else is in my boat. In 2009, Disneyland and Disney World will let you into their park for free on your Birthday. It is part of their campaign, "What will you celebrate?"
There are a few catches you should be aware of so you do not just show up on your special day.
There are a few catches you should be aware of so you do not just show up on your special day.
- You have to sign up in advance on their website. They will send you an e-mail that you will have to print out and take to the park with you.
- You have to bring ID with you. You have to show a certified copy of your birth certificate if you are not old enough of have a driver's license.
- You have to actually go on your birthday. This is sad for me as my birthday is on October 31st and we have New Life's annual Pumpkin Patch on that day. (Of course the Pumpkin Patch is super fun so I am not too sad =)

MOPS
As promised, I am updating you all on upcoming events in the life of New Life Children's Ministry. Currently, we are accepting Fall registration for MOPS. I would not mention this program if it were not fabulous and I did not wholeheartedly believe in it.
Okay Amy, what is it with MOPS?
I am super glad you asked! MOPS is a group designed for mothers with children under the age of 5. As a person who is relatively new to the Cerritos area, I LOVE going to MOPS and hanging out with the moms. They are a special group composed of unique women who share the common bond of loving kids and the common desire to be a great mom. The vibe of the group is just fun. When they get together, the eat, laugh, share life stories of life and motherhood, and really care about one another. During their time together they also make crafts or listen to speakers.
What about our kids? What do they do while the moms are hanging out?
The children are cared for in a parallel program called Mopetts. Their groups should not to be confused with The Muppets. I promise they are quite different. (Yes, I realize I am dating myself.) While the moms socialize, their children do the same. They have the opportunity to make friends and have fun with their peers in a preschool type setting.
What other information do I need to know?
MOPS meets on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month in the Fireside room at New Life Community Church. They meet from 9:30 until 11:30 in the morning. The cost for the Fall Semester is $40. There are a limited number of spaces left for the fall semester. Send me an e-mail if you want to register. The first meeting is 17 September 2008. It will be here before you know it!
Here is the bottom line: I truly believe in MOPS and encourage moms with preschool aged children to come and visit at least once. Seriously, what do you have to lose? Just come to the first meeting and then you can decide if you want to join for the fall. If you are anything like me, you may be nervous to come and not know anyone. Send me an e-mail (alunde@nl-cc.org) and I will meet up with you a little before the meeting starts and we can go together. Come, check out MOPS and see for yourself!

...and we all say hello
Bonjour, Hola, Guten Tag, Ni hao, Namaste, Jambo, Goedendag, Shalom, and Hello. Welcome to the blog for the Children's Ministry at New Life Community Church in Artesia, CA. I have been scratching my head and wrinkling my forehead in an attempt to discover ways to keep in touch with everyone. Hopefully I have found a way!
Still you may have some questions:
So, what is your goal in creating this blog?
My goal in creating this blog is to keep everyone "in the loop" with our ministry to Children and Families. I believe communication is the most important part of relationships and realize that sometimes it can be just one more thing on your plate to grab me on a Sunday morning. Our communication is vastly important to me so I have created a space for us to communicate at your convenience. My desire is to create a forum for questions and thoughts - conversations- in response to posts. I hope to post on a variety of topics from take home discussion questions based on Sunday morning lessons, to thoughts on parenting, to yummy recipes, to fun events at New Life and in the surrounding community.
Who is the blog for?
What a great question! Are you a kid? Have you ever been a kid? Do you happen to know, parent, grandparent, teach a kid? Do you like kids? Then, this blog is for you!
I encourage you to come, read, don't be a stranger but choose to be brave and post responses! This is a way we can grow together, develop relationships and foster community! Again, welcome to our blog! I am SUPER glad you stopped by and I hope to see you again soon.
See you later OR Peace out yo!
Love,
Amy
